Being in lockdown and not being able to leave the house or take part in any kind of social situation is leaving many people not knowing what to do to fill their time. Here are some things that have been keeping us busy this week…
1. Social media
Much like everyone else, social media has become even more of a focus for us recently, not only personally, but as social media is a large part of our jobs. The country (and much of the world) being made to stay inside pushes everyone further online meaning social media coverage is upped for most brands, including our own clients. Social media has really bought a lot of people together during this unusual time including with challenges, memes, news coverage, Covid-19 support and fundraising, which brings us on to our next point…
2. Keeping up with Captain Tom Moore’s NHS fundraising
We’d have to have been living under a rock to not know about the amazing 99 year old Captain Tom Moore who pledged to walk 100 laps of his garden to raise money for the NHS. As he approaches his 100th birthday at the end of the month, Tom set out to walk 100 laps of his garden with the hope to initially raise £1000 for NHS Charities Together. Amazingly, his Just Giving page very quickly surpassed not only £1000, £100,000 and £1M but the millions continue to raise daily. We have been thoroughly enjoying keeping up with his heart-warming fundraising journey for a very worthwhile cause during this time.
3. Planning and cooking meals
As we normally might not have the time, we’ve been loving planning out our meals for the week. Not only does it mean we can be fully prepared with ingredients, but taking the time to plan and cook is surprisingly therapeutic. It’s also helpful when trying to eat healthily to know what’s on the menu each night. The extra time saved with the lack of commute and evening activities means we can spend more time researching and trying new recipes, and we’re loving it. We’re looking forward to our next Sunday planning session already!
4. Video call quizzes
The only way that we can stay in touch with friends, family and colleagues at the moment is through video calls, and what better way to spend time on them than to create quizzes for each other. We for one have been loving our Saturday night quiz with family, rotating the quizzer each week. If nothing else, we’re learning a lot during lockdown!
It’s amazing that above all, so many people are finding the positives in a less than ideal situation and for however long it continues, we know we will find lots to keep us busy!
